Primary Race for US Congress, 27th CD
Word's out. It's definitely a primary race for our new congress critter. We have two candidates who want the GOP slot for US Congress in CD 27 (our new CD since redistricting).

- Jack Orswell is a former FBI agent, former reserve officer for Arcadia Police Department. He's also a well-known Boy Scout leader. Jack has lived in Arcadia for 28 years.
- Bob Duran is a prominent Pasadena attorney. Born in Los Angeles to Hispanic parents, he formerly taught tax law at Southwestern University and has practiced as a tax attorney for the past 25 years.
Both will prove to be formidable opponents. Both will put up a major fight to own the GOP ticket coming out of the primary election June 5. More as the story develops...
Weinstein Talks Capitalism: VEB - Sat 2/04/2012
Using allusions to the scientific method, author Leon Weinstein asserts that alternate economic systems other than capitalism have been tried and found wanting in our country, and that ultimately, capitalism is the economic system that delivers the most compassion and care for the disadvantaged in our society.
Weinstein, a Russian expat came to the US as part of a US/Russian grain deal in the 1980s. In exchange for a given number of tons of grain given to Russia by the US, a specified number of Jewish 'refugees' were alowed to leave Russia for the West. Accordingly, Weinstein asserts that he knows the exact number of tons of wheat that his life and freedom are worth - at least to the Russians.
Mr. Weinstein's presence was pricelss to us on Saturday Feb 4th at the Victrory Elephant Breakfast (VEB) as he told us how Capitalism compares with other systems the West and other nations have tried. Capitalism wins. Every time.
